The Bips

.., Utrecht

The Bips, a punk band hailing from Nijmegen, Netherlands, was formed in June 1987 by frontman Jozzy Rubenski. Known for their energetic performances and raw punk sound, they quickly became a staple in the Dutch punk scene. Their influences include iconic bands like the Sex Pistols.

In 1988, The Bips gained national attention with a brief appearance on a television program hosted by Linda de Mol, where they performed “Rock Around the Clock” in just 20 seconds. When asked about their ambitions, Jozzy boldly stated their desire to “end up in bed” with the host, showcasing their provocative punk attitude.

After an initial run until 1993, the band took a hiatus and reformed in the early 2000s. In 2011, they announced a split, with Jozzy expressing that he didn’t want the band to become just an ordinary act.
However, they continued to make music and perform, celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2013.

Throughout their career, The Bips remained true to the punk ethos, delivering high-energy shows and maintaining a rebellious spirit that left a lasting impact on the Dutch punk landscape.
